The Bed
“Good evening, it is me, your bed. I am delighted to be the one you are lying upon. We will spend many wonderful nights together. My mattress, as you surely feel, is exceptionally comfortable. Before you drift to sleep, I can tell you stories from the world of furniture and humans. I can sing, hum, and purr. I can whisper in the darkness . I can moan sensually, softly just for you, or loudly for the neighbors. I can wake you in the morning with a splendid soliloquy and the scent of roses. And there is so much more I can do .”
“And can you change your voice?”
“No. My voice is part of me, just like the headboard, frame, mattress, and even the LEDs whose blinking will enrich your rest. I can also shine a steady light, perfect for reading.”
“Fine. Shut up .”
“I fall silent now, but I remain here, ever vigilant. Just call out ‘Edmund, hear my voice !’”
